In the early 1920s Ben Hecht produced a daily column for the “Chicago Daily News” that explored the lives of urban outsiders: immigrants, African-Americans, the poor.  Bill Savage, a Northwestern University professor, will discuss Hecht’s approach to capturing these unique  vistages of American – and Chicago – 1920s life.

Eric Schneider and his jazz trio play HP Library on  Sunday, March 7th at 2pm.  Mr. Schneider is a Grammy winning saxophonist who has played with Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald, to name a few.  So how did HP Library score this gig?  The trio’s pianist, Jeremy Kahn, is a former HPer.
