303 Taxi Could be Your Best Friend Tonight

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

847-303-0303 .  That could be your lucky number.  If in doubt, it’s worth calling 303 Taxi if you, or a friend, has had a little too much fun.

303 logoAnd the next morning, when you have to call 303 Taxi and have them drive you back to your car, don’t think of it as your morning-after walk of shame – HARDLY!  Frankly, it’s one of the better ways to show yourself some respect – and start the new year right…

Stash’s to take on THE KING …

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Freelance Journalist Ari Bendersky broke the news in early December and sure enough, the gloves are soon to be coming off…

Stash’s is making a run at HP royalty – aka Michael’s… Of course, good ole Stash was in HP well before Michael’s arrived – but then Stash’s was shoehorned into a nether corner of Port Clinton Square …With foot-traffic provided by the Christian Science Reading Room, it was only a matter of time before Stash’s pursued a “flight to quality” strategy.

Moving to 1825 Second St., directly behind Uncle Dan’s, put Stash’s on the exact same block– and only doors down – from Michael’s.  Central Avenue shoppers will literally have to walk past Stash’s to get to Michaels…

This could all get very interesting….

Binny’s Champagne Fiesta Grande

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Sample over 50 champagnes and sparkling wines at Binnys on Tues. Dec. 29 from 6-8:30pm.  $15 for Binny card holders $20 for everyone else.  It sounds a perfectly enjoyable event, with beverages sourced from France, California, Italy and Spain.  HOWEVER, Binny’s threw a similar event in downtown Chicago where they offered Dom Perignon & Roederer Cristal – albeit at higher ticket prices.  Next go around, Binny’s should consider stepping it up when it comes to HPers…

Many Happy Returns

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Since all HP Daily Blog correspondents are busy today running errands, HP Daily Blog correspondent EB is left to mis-report on what he surmises to be the downtown HP parking situation.

“$10, $15, $20…”  No, this isn’t the Board of Trade, this is the price for one of downtown HP’s most coveted items. “Parking is at a premium today.”  While it’s difficult to hoard parking spots, unless of course you park perpendicular to the spaces, you can at least squat in a spot until someone waves some hard currency your way.  “Unless I get a $20 or a coupon to E-Street, I’m calling my boyfriend to see if he wants to take my spot when I leave.”

Indeed, tag-teaming has proven to be one of the more effective ways to score a spot. “If it wasn’t for inherenting this parking spot from my father, I wouldn’t have been able to return my Xmas gifts until…say…tomorrow.”

Many Happy Returns!

Saks Tests New Pricing Campaign – Nearly Free.

Friday, December 25th, 2009

michaels parking lotFrom 8am to Noon on the day after Xmas (Dec. 26th), Saks is taking an additional 50% off already reduced prices. (After noon – it’s 40% off)…O’Hare is reporting that people are flying back from Florida for deals like that.

HP Daily Blog expects the Michael’s Parking Lot to be a zoo. Per the attached diagram, the Michael’s lot offers 35 marked spaces – 48 if you count the illegal spots.  At 50% off the world, it’s possible that the closest spot to Saks will be along Roger Williams.

Merry Xmas!!!

$25 at Venture

$50 at Robert’s (Highwood)

$75 at Mrs. Robinson’s (Port Clinton)

Free crab rangoon or egg rolls with every order at Hunan Pearl…sort of…

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

It’s Xmas Eve, which means Hunan Pearl is as busy as the Big Kippur Break Fast rush at Once Upon a Bagel.  Now Hunan doesn’t start off offering their deliciousness for free…it simply devolves into a giveaway…That’s because Xmas Eve is beyond busy…Hunan will quote you an hour, but any large order will bottleneck their system, turning the hour into an hour and a half.  And in Hunan math, 30 minutes = freebies.

So if you’re hankering for the taste of either the Szechwan or Cantonese provinces, Hunan Pearl is a very good option…just don’t get there early.
