Adults Only Easter Egg Hunt!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

OK Fine – it’s for the kids, but really it’s the adults who score the goodies in the eggs, right?  Saturday, April 3rd at 10AM at West Ridge Park.  The kids are divided by age. 3-years-old and under, 4-7 years-old and 8-years old to senior citizen.  Our money is on the 3 year olds to run circles around the 1 year olds – not even a contest!  Although the 7 year old could hip-check the 4-year olds, and the 8-year old could hip-check the seniors…well, it should be interesting to see how it all plays out…fun for the whole family – and it’s FREE! Questions? call 847-579-3120.

Who’s Highland Park’s Biggest Exporter?

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

With the Solo Cup Corp. joining the ranks of the departed (e.g. the bums moved to Lake Forest – so now we finally get to enjoy our finest wines out of Dixie), HP has a new face to market as their #1 exporter…who is it?

carols cookiesCarol’s Cookies.  Exporting to most states in the Union, Carol’s Cookies are enjoyed in fancy shops along Madison Avenue in NY (Vaus Haut- Chocolat at 1100 Madison Avenue sells ‘em for $5.50 each) to Shell Gas Station along Highway 41 at Park Avenue (and Skokie Valley Road for $2.25 each).

If you haven’t had a Carol’s Cookie, they’re truly a treat – if not an outright meal. Tipping the scales at just over a half a pound, it could last you a week…or a moment as is the case with most on the HP Daily Blog editorial staff.  Whatever the case, you won’t be disappointed.

Half Price Books Delivers the Full Fare

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

half priceOf course you can wander around the HP Library if your’re looking for something interesting to read.  But you should also consider spelunking through the aisles of Half Price Books in the Crossroads Shopping Mall.  The Half Price selection is unique.  An eclectic mix of old and new….out of print and new to print.    The store has stuff that quite simply doesn’t exist elsewhere.  And the pricing?  Well…the name says it all – mostly.  You can nearly set up a business selling half price books online – and make a profit.  Look at Ebay or Amazon, and you’ll see that Half Price is the neighborhood bargain it proclaims to be.  Also, check out the box of framed movie stills in the back near the washroom- 20 bucks for classic memories ready to be hung in your home.

West Marine – Yachts to goggles – right here in HP

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

It’s easy to forget that HP is a beach town…if you need some reminding, check out none other than West Marine located in Cross Roads. West marine is a store that will have you dreaming big dreams.  It’s hard to believe that someone makes a pair of nautical binoculars that costs $6,000…it’s also hard to imagine that this is the store that sells them.  Even if you’re not the boating type, it’s somewhat fascinating to check out the latest and greatest gadgets and nautical accoutrements.  Things have progressed mightily since you captained that sunfish back in summer camp…

Are you a Rock diva?

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

guitar centerGuitar Center, located in Crossroads Center in HP, screams out power.  Nikola Tesla himself would have been mesmerized to see his electricity amping speakers that go up to 11, guitars brandishing an extra string for added uumpf, and an entire room dedicated to the unyielding, tribal pulsations of the drum.

Guitar Center will help you take on the world. (Note:  Woodstock must have channeled some similar raw power.)

Franky, it’s an honor to have Guitar Center deem HP rockable enough to have a store.  There are only 12 Guitar Center stores in all of Illinois, which is basically saying that between music from Norton’s, Vibe, and Lincolnshire, HP at least ranks in the top twelve in terms of sheer bad-assness .

At a minimum, Guitar Center is worth a visit.   If you’re looking to change things up for a remarkably modest price, there are few better things to consider than diddying around with a guitar and amp to channel your inner rock star – for real….

And if you have any questions while at Guitar Center, ask for Reed – he knows his stuff…

Dannon Yogurt Gives Some $$$ Back

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Activia Yogurt is good for your health?  Maybe. But when Sunset and Jewel and Poeta’s put signs on the aisle communicating that as fact, well the lawyers couldn’t accept it and sued.  So if you’re an inhaler of Dannon Yogurt, especially the Activia variety, you may be due back some money.  $100 if you can show your Sunset receipts.  $30 if you can’t.

Here’s the website that starts all the fun:  LINK
