If you’re a Shakespeare groupie, you’ll likely enjoy the theatrical reading at the HP Library, this Sunday, Feb. 28th.  Equity actors will read some of the classics.  By Equity they mean dedicated professionals in the union, which may make this more than the average Shakespeare reading.

No reservations required – Sunday, Feb. 28th at 2pm- HP Library Auditorium

If you Breathe Oprah, you May Want to Live Her Too

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Robyn Okrant thought to herself “what would happen if I digested all of Oprah’s musings.”  The result was this book “Living Oprah”.  We at HP Daily Blog cannot wait for a Julie & Julia send-up of this book – but until pre-production hits, all we have is this evening to rejoice in.

The author undoubtedly luxuriates in being a do-gooder, making a difference, being kind but suffers the fate of having to listen to Dr. Phil.  Even then, it may make for an interesting evening – especially if you’re interested in the mini-me version of Oprah.

February 8th – 7pm – HP Library Auditorium.

HP Public Library Aims for Jock Hall

Friday, November 20th, 2009

The HP Public Library is partnering with the Firehouse to host a video game tourney on November 21st  at 10am (at the Firehouse).

Call us a purist, but isn’t the library trying a little too hard to be cool?  Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl doth not sound like Dewey Decimal Collider or Battle on the Encyclopedia Britannica.

Programs Galore in HP – Winter 2010

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

The Park District of HP just released their phone book Winter 2010 program guide – and it’s a doosy. Packed with 86 pages of get-off-the-couch activities, it makes the 76-page November 9th issue of Business Week look relatively inert.  The Park District of HP continues to impress, and the range of Winter 2010 offerings and price points is even more impressive.  Particularly compelling were the parent child martial arts classes (pgs 72-73).  Hmmm.  Perhaps that means that parent/child Ultimate Fighting Championship classes aren’t far behind.

Highland Park Public Library Gets Aunt Jemima Treatment

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Big HP Daily shout out to Harold Ramis who’ll be visiting the HPPL to discuss some of his classic movies with nudity including Animal House, Stripes, Caddyshack and the near-miss moment of the century that was the Christie Brinkley  pool scene in Vacation.

Mr. Ramis is expected to answer the age old question – Who would he rather get stuck on a ski lift with?
Russell Zitsky from Stripes or Egon Spengler from Ghost Busters?

7pm Tuesday, October 27th at the Highland Park Public Library
